DRS - MT HALL - TORUS VIL

INTERNATIONAL DIGITAL ARTIST RESIDENCY EXCHANGE

SBR017 - FEBRUARY/MARCH 2021

Paradise Air, Metal and Samarbeta experimented with a 10 day digital residency with DRS (Manchester, UK) TORUS VIL (Tokyo, JP) & M T HALL (Liverpool, UK), taking place in the artists homes during the covid-19 lockdown.

While ‘in person’ interactions & international travel was not possible the residency highlighted the importance of sharing ideas and building relationships with other artists. The artist & the host organisations worked together to explore fluid social communication on digital platforms and how to enable the artist to creatively collaborate when not in person.

The residency demonstrated the possibilities of the digital platform and opened up conversations about future of international collaborations and how using this way of communicating could cut down on the need to use air travel.

The artists were in contact with each other throughout the residency with the help of George Maud (digital producer) who helped the artists and organisations with technical requirements and shared knowledge of digital platforms to utilise to communicate, collaborate and share ideas.

The three organisations (Samarbeta, Metal & Paradise Air) partnered with one another for the first time and responded to the impact of the global pandemic. They took the time during the residency to trial new models of international artist exchange and collaboration.

The residency was documented and this video gives insight into what was created and learned during this very different way enabling artist collaboration.
