SOME ARTISTS CHOOSE TO PRODUCE A LIVE SHOW AS PART OF THEIR TIME WITH US, WITH A PREMIERE PERFORMANCE OFTEN MARKING THE END OF THEIR RESIDENCY. THIS GIVES THEM THE FREEDOM TO TRIAL THEIR NEW WORK AND MAKE MISTAKES WHILE IN THE PRESENCE OF A RECEPTIVE AUDIENCE.
SAMARBETA CREATES A SPACE WHERE IDEAS AND COLLABORATIONS CAN BE TESTED, AND OFTEN THESE CONTINUE TO GROW POST-RESIDENCY.
WE SUPPORT ARTISTS IN TOURING THESE WORKS.
CHARLES HAYWARD
ANONYMOUS BASH
2015-2017
Our first residency resulted in a record called Anonymous Bash, which was produced from a series of jams between Charles Hayward and 20+ musicians from Salford's experimental music scene. This record then became an 8-piece band led by Charles Hayward that toured around the UK and performed at a number of festivals including Supersonic Supernormal & Fat Out Fest.
MOON DUO & EMMANUEL BIARD
STARDUST HIGHWAY: EXPERIMENTS IN STONER DISCO
2019 / 2021
Created, developed and tested in Salford during their Samarbeta residency, Moon Duo & Emmanuel Biard created an entirely new stage show titled ‘Stardust Highway: Experiments in Stoner Disco’. First performed at the legendary NIAMOS hippodrome in Hulme, this show was then toured internationally across Europe, USA, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, and more.
UKAEA, IMPATV, THE SEER
WORLD ZERO
2019

Created in a huge warehouse in Salford, ‘WORLD ZERO’ was an ambitious production that brought together musicians, AV artists, ceramicists and performance artists. For the initial performance, the audience was taken on a journey through different warehouse spaces for a very special and unusual live experience. The challenge after the residency was taking this epic performance from such a huge space into more conventional live music venues. Samarbeta worked with the artists to adapt the show, toured it in spaces across the UK, and took it to Supersonic festival & Milhoes de Festa in Portugal.
EX EASTER ISLAND HEAD
LARGE ELECTRIC ENSEMBLE
2016-2017
Ex-Easter Island Head worked with a handpicked selection of local guitarists, and composed a new piece that saw the groups' unique vocabulary of extended techniques deployed on a mass scale. They created an ambitious, long-form work for multiple prepared guitars, basses, and percussion. The 17-piece ensemble toured around the UK, including performances at Supersonic Festival and Liverpool Psych Fest.
