BBC PHILHARMONIC

SBR003 - PART TWO - MAY 2016

Back in 2015 Samarbeta brought a very special collaboration to Sounds From the Other City festival between Liverpool based trio Ex Easter Island Head (EEIH) & selected members from the BBC Philharmonic. They returned the following year for the 2nd part of this trilogy, this time performing in the ethereal setting of Salford Cathedral.

You can listen to a 2 minute excerpt of the 25 minute piece here.

EEIH composed a new piece specifically for a performance that was debuted at Sounds From the Other City (SFTOC) festival on Sunday May 3rd 2015 and performed just twice on the day.

The EEIH trio form an ensemble composing and performing music for solid-body electric guitar, percussion and other instruments, they have worked within many different genres and are passionate about the music they create. They have a wide variety of skill sets which make them ideal to take on this challenge.

The BBC Philharmonic is an internationally renowned broadcasting orchestra based in Salford. It supports and nurtures emerging talent from across the North West, working closely with Salford City Council and other partners to provide unique opportunities like this one for musicians of all ages to work with players from the orchestra.

The 2015 BBC Philharmonic Ensemble featured a harpist, a saxophonist and a string duo, it was rehearsed at the BBC Philharmonic Studio in MediaCityUK and debuted at Vimto Gardens on Sunday May 3rd as part of SFTOC.

The 2016 piece featured a double bass, harpist, trumpet and violin. The piece was performed in the grand surroundings of Salford Cathedral, the first time this venue had been used for SFTOC.
