Born in Oldham, Lancashire. Graduated from Leeds Metropolitan University 2000, BA (Hons) Fine Art. Lives and works in Manchester/Salford

Rachel Goodyear specializes in the practice of Drawing where she explores notions of fear, desire and longing through sparse but intricate drawings that invite intimate scrutiny. Goodyear captures fragments of imagery, stripping them far from their original context before manipulating and rendering them in delicate pencil work. Her predominantly figurative drawings are occasionally interrupted with abstracted explosion of colour or texture. These motifs she considers to be 'fractures' or  'blind spots' that conceal and partially reveal, like a waking dream or a false recollection. The resulting images are simultaneously macabre and playful, allowing for multiple interpretations of the scenes she depicts: playful or confrontational, erotic or predatory.

Her work has been exhibited and collected in the UK and internationally. She was shortlisted for the Northern Art Prize in 2009 and has undertaken residencies at The Banff Center, Canada and Flux Factory, New York. Solo exhibitions include 'Restless Guests', The Drawing Center, New York and 'Modifications of the Host', Yorkshire Sculpture Park. Group shows have included 'Drawing Stories', Folkwang Museum, Essen; The Curitiba Biennial, Brazil; 'Made Up', Tate Liverpool; and 'Post Notes' ICA, London.

One half of London outfit Hungryghost, Sam Weaver is a composer and sound artist with a longstanding interest in the studio as a sort off laboratory for sonic investigation, often re-routing instruments into abstraction and deliberately misusing his equipment. Since 2012 his main tool both live and in the studio, has been the Hordjik analogue modular synthesizer. He has recently recorded and performed with Charles Hayward, Danny Saul, Tombed Visions, Gnod and has performed along side Kevin Drumm as well as launching ‘Cuspeditions’; a new vinyl label and series of sound art events championing experimental music and the unclassifiable.

His music lies in the grey areas between acousmatic music, free improvisation and experimental electronics, often exploring ways to bring moments of calm and harmony out of passages of chaos.

Sam also co-run’s ‘Open-Circuit’ with Chris Haslam. A Manchester based project exploring the field of circuit bending and musical electronics, bringing together an ever growing community of makers, hackers, artists & engineers who have a DIY mindset towards technology, creating an open network and body of knowledge through education, workshops and public events, such as last years ‘Sine’s & Squares’ a three day festival in association with NOVARS Research Centre, the University of Manchester.

Weaver was instrumental to the outcomes of the first two SBR residencies (Anonymous Bash and Swaggerjack) as musician, technician and producer. His dedication to the support of new sounds was paramount to their success.
