Gender Perspectives on Development Work

A tenth of the world's income goes to women. This fact alone shows that equality between men and women is an important prerequisite for sustainable development. Add to this that 90 per cent of parliamentarians are men and it becomes even clearer that work for democracy and a just world must lead to improvements for both men and women. But the recipe isn't only projects directed towards women. Rather, taking action to challenge structures in society and ourselves - who ensure that that the unjust allocation persist.

Forum South has produced a brief introduction to equalities issues for those who are tasked with development work within an organisation. Through this Forum South hopes to encourage you and your organisation to review your work and your organisation from a gender perspective. Forum South also invites you to take part in exchanges of experience and competencies development in this area.

This introduction on gender perspective gives several basic tools to help you and your organisation to start working to integrate gender perspectives in development work and work in Sweden. Forum South offers courses and seminars on gender perspectives and has published a special paper around the gender perspective 'Gör KÖN till en fråga om makt (Make Gender a Power Issue) - availabe in Swedish only. This is available via www.forumsyd.org
